EXPLORATION SITES IN MICHIGAN

Picture

Sugar Loaf Abandoned Ski Resort

Take me!
Undoubtedly one of the coolest but least-destroyed adventure sites I've been to. There's an entire indoor ski lodge to be explored with memorabilia and souvenirs (like ski boots, poles, and lift tickets) from the early 90s as well as an entire mountain with abandoned lifts and shacks to climb and explore. BONUS: This small town in Northern Michigan has only one police officer for the entire region, so the chances of getting caught are minimal.

Petosky State Park

take me!
If you ever find yourself in Northern Michigan, these narrow, snaky trails are perfect for a quick hike and a great view. A personal favorite is the 0.4 mile loop of stairs that winds up the mountain to a look-out location and then back down through a shallow valley. Visit in the winter for powder-covered staircases!

Sunday Lake Hidden Kayak Trail

The woman renting the kayaks told us that going on this path was described to her as "falling into the sky." Now, I don't know what kind of drugs this woman was on, but it was *almost* as cool as she said it was. We had to kayak underneath a bridge and through a ton of lily pads to get there, but it was by far the coolest kayak trip I've been on. Not many people know about this one... or know where it ends. Just use your GPS to find Sunday Lake Kayak Rentals.

Black River Harbor

For my favorite hike in the Upper Peninsula (a real adventure, I promise, even though you're not breaking any laws) hit up this park. No matter what time of the year, it's never too hot or humid. God bless the UP.
